James Piktel is a board-certified Adult Psychiatrist who is also board-eligible in Psychosomatic Medicine. He is originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and received his Bachelor Degree in Microbiology at the University of Alberta in 2005. He went on to complete medical school at St. George's University in Grenada, graduating in 2009.
In 2013, he successfully completed the University of Washington Psychiatry Residency program; he was one of the chief residents of the Boise track. He went on to do a clinical fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine for the University of Washington in Seattle, and graduated from that in 2014. Now he is back in Boise, working for Sage Healthcare PLCC, serving the city he fell in love with.
He is skilled in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of adults for a wide range of mental health disorders including mood disorders (such as major depressive disorder as well as bipolar disorders), anxiety disorders (including panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and PTSD), thought disorders (including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder), chemical addictions, and disorders of impulse and attention (such as ADHD). He also has undergone advanced subspecialty training in consult psychiatry - delivering psychiatric care for people hospitalized for medical/surgical reasons.
Dr. Piktel is adept at medication management as well as cognitive behavioral therapy. He stresses active collaboration between family members as well as other providers in order to provide the best possible care to his patients.
